Engineered Oak Flooring

Flooring like Engineered Wood is perfect to go over underfloor heating or for those times when you don’t want or need it attaching to the sub-floor underneath. It is very similar to the solid wood options and is great for rooms that tend to have higher moisture levels.

Is Engineered flooring real wood though? – Absolutely! As a rule, engineered wood flooring comes in thicknesses between 7 and 22mm.  The thicker the board, the better the quality.

It is made in layers with a ply or hardwood core and then a top layer of genuine oak veneer. In between, there are layers of glued together thinner timber.  This is what helps with humidity levels and helps to prevent movement.

Engineered Wood Flooring
This type of oak flooring is tougher than the solid oak variety. It is suitable for heavy footfall, children and pets ensuring it is a popular choice for the modern family looking for a beautifully stylish floor that is totally practical.

Engineered oak flooring is suitable for use in conservatories and kitchens, where another wood flooring is not. The planks are available in a variety of lengths, widths and finishes looking amazing in any interior space.

Versatile and desirable for use with underfloor heating, engineered oak flooring may be the answer for you.
Solid Oak

Is engineered flooring something we are likely to recommend as a floor covering? We certainly would, like all floor coverings it comes with its limitations. As it is a natural wood product, similar to solid oak flooring it will come with variations in colour and lines. Some boards may not be considered suitable during installation, so a contingency amount should be ordered to account for this.

Once again, in common with solid oak, you will find that furniture will mark your oak flooring, so it is our recommendation that to overcome this you protect your floor by using furniture pads to protect it. However, if your floor should still become damaged it can be sanded and varnished, lacquered or oiled to retain its quality and beautiful look.

Laminate Oak Flooring

Laminate is suitable for those areas that are ‘heavy traffic’ areas and can withstand a lot of moisture and pressure. It is hard-wearing and the finish on laminate products has come a long way in recent years. Available in a wide variety of colours and styles, nearly everyone can find a laminate floor to suit them. Additionally, it is durable and easy to maintain. These practical reasons for choice make it a popular floor covering.
Laminate Oak Flooring

Laminate is a viable option for those with a love of wood flooring whatever their budget. Whatever style you are looking for, rest assured that there will be something to suit you. Although stylish and affordable, even a high-end laminate can lack the warmth and natural look and feel of real oak floors.

A laminate floor cannot be refinished but does offer a varying degree of resilience and durability. Available in different thicknesses and styles, discuss the options with us and we can advise of suitability dependent on your room.

LVT (Oak Effect) Flooring

LVT Flooring (Luxury Vinyl Tiles) is fast becoming a floor of choice across the world, especially for kitchens and bathrooms mainly due to its highly water-resistant composition. Although it isn’t made from wood, wood effect finishes are available along with other styles. Again, it is very low maintenance and a durable floor covering suitable for heavy foot traffic. It is a super pet and child friendly as it is hard to scratch.

LVT Flooring Installers

This floor covering doesn’t accurately reflect the beauty of a truly wooden floor as it lacks the authentic feel, and can be slightly more expensive than laminate, however the pro’s far outweigh the cons for us. It’s an alternative floor covering that stands the test of time and something we are happy to recommend and fit.

Oak Flooring

Solid Oak Flooring

If you are renovating an old property or want that more traditional feel, solid oak flooring is an ideal choice. It creates a warm and homely feel to any room and looks stunning throughout the house, and has been known to increase the value of your house – making it more of an investment

Solid oak can make a room appear bigger which makes for a great first impression. Low maintenance and easy to clean, you won’t be worried about spills staining as you do with carpet. Long-lasting and versatile, you don’t need to think about matching a solid oak flooring to the future colour schemes.

The solid oak floor isn’t floated like its counterparts, it needs to be nailed or glued and isn’t a suitable covering for underfloor heating. It does however have its own unique warmth and feel and will last for hundreds of years.

Solid Wood Installers Near Me

In addition to being easy to clean, they are also great for improvement in indoor air quality. Whereas carpets hold animal fur, dust and pollens, hardwood flooring does not, making a perfect choice for those with allergens.

The initial outlay for a solid oak flooring maybe that bit extra in terms of cost, but the benefits of durability outweigh the initial outlay. Even though the finish is timeless and the colour doesn’t fade you can choose to refinish your floor if you fancy a change of floor colour.

On a positive note, even if your floor becomes damaged it can be sanded and refinished and restored to its original beauty. If we were to choose a floor covering, solid oak would be the one.

New Oak Floor & fitted kitchen

I was lucky enough to get a personal recommendation for this company and also checked them out on Checkatrade. They are time-efficient, extremely tidy and I am impressed at the level of workmanship from this small family run company who managed to work within our budget. Would recommend them without hesitation.

This is the second time Mark has carried out work for us and we have been delighted both times. Linda and Mark kept in contact leading up to the project and throughout the work. Oak floor and Bespoke under-stair storage

Mark has just finished removing the cupboard under our stairs to create a space for us to park our new buggy. He created a small cupboard to house our service meters and installed a beautiful solid oak floor complete with sunken matting at the front door. All this along with repairing our spindles and bannisters upstairs has made for a much-improved hallway. Delighted with the finished result and will be in touch with Mark again shortly to quote for our next project. Would highly recommend.
